Thesis Title: Benchmarking EU for Regional Development Agencies in Turkey

About

Oguz Demir was graduated from School of Economics in Istanbul University. He had participated to master program in Istanbul Commerce University and graduated in July 2007 in the field of International Trade. He also participated to a graduate training program in University of Federico II in Naples, Italy in Economics in 2008 and now a Ph.d. researcher in University of Istanbul. His ph.d. thesis is about the foreign direct investments and comparison BRIC countries with Turkey.

Till now, Mr. Demir had worked in the following positions and institutions,
- Deputy Secretary General, Turkish Democracy Foundation: Turkish Democracy Foundation is one of the most prestigious NGOs established by top-level politicians in Turkey working about the improvement of democracy, free market economy and rule of law in Turkey since 1987. Oguz Demir worked as the head of Istanbul office and staff between 2003-2004 and he was responsible for international projects and market economy research. He prepared and managed several EU-funded projects during his position.
- Research and Projects’ Director, Young Businessmen Association of Turkey(TUGIAD): TUGIAD is one of the biggest entrepreneurship organization in Turkey with number of members (600) which are mostly medium sized enterprises. Oguz Demir was responsible for periodic economic research activities and EU-funded projects.
- Several Consultancy Positions: Mr. Demir worked as Project Coordinator, Project Consultant in several projects (infrastructure, economic development, research projects etc.) all over Turkey since 2004. Total budget amount of the project is 12.000.000 Euro till now.
Oguz Demir is now holding the positions shown below;
- Coordinator, EU Applied Research Center Istanbul Commerce University: Since 2005, Mr. Demir is working as the Coordinator of the EU Applied Research Center of Istanbul Commerce University which was established by Istanbul Chamber Commerce (the biggest chamber in Europe with 355.000 members). He is responsible to prepare and manage academic research projects about Turkey – EU economic relations.
- Co-host, SME Support Programme Live TV Show, Bloomberg HT: Oguz Demir is working as the co-host of SME Support Programme live TV show since 2010. He is now one the well-known academics in Turkey about Grant programs by EU and national authorities like development agencies.
- Managing Partner, D&DK Consultancy: Oguz Demir is the co-founder of DDK Consultancy which the firm is operating since 2010. Till now, D&DK has provided services to very well-known institutions such as Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Corlu Chamber of Commerce and many development agencies. The company has a big portfolio in Thrace and Marmara Regions.
- Chairman, Ekonomistler Platformu: Ekonomistler Platformu, an NGO established in 2000 is one the most prestigious think-tanks in Turkey in the field of Economy Policies. It is located in Istanbul and has more than 10.000 members including bureaucrats, politicians, academics and business people all over the world. Oguz Demir is the Chairman of the Organization since 2006.

Oguz Demir had also two books published by Istanbul Commerce University and Eastern Black Sea Municipalities Union about regional development. He is experienced in regional development, governance and EU Funding Programs as well as international economics.
